2010 OZZIE MURPHY, SR. SCHOLARSHIP

 The North Carolina Conference of Shrine Temples offers scholarship assistance awards to deserving students in the North Carolina School System.  This award is contingent upon the applicant’s acceptance at an accredited institution of higher learning.  The award recipient must also have demonstrated outstanding achievement and merit in scholarship and citizenship during his / her previous scholarly endeavors.  Need will become a factor in the selection of a recipient only when all other factors are equal.

 A committee of members of the North Carolina Conference of Shrine Temples will receive and review all applications and make recommendations to the Desert Conference.  The designated recipient will be announced at the designated time.  All decisions of the committee will be presented to the Desert Conference, and upon acceptance of the Desert Conference, will be final.

 The scholarship award is open to family members of Nobility with the constant reminder that the scholarship award is a part of the Youth Program of the North Carolina Conference of Shrine Temples.

 The Scholarship award is based on a progression that is limited to (4) four years.  The progression is:

*           First Year – (1) One Student receives $1000

*           Second Year – That same student receives $1000          

*           Third Year – The same (2) two students receive $1000

*           Third Year – A new recipient also receives $1000

*           Fourth Year – The same (3) three students receives $1000

*           Fourth Year – A new recipient receives $1000

*           The progression continues.

The award will be paid directly to the recipient during the period of his / her enrollment at a post high school institution.  This award is non-restrictive, except for maintaining the noted standard below:

1.            Grade point average of 2.5 or above in academia.

2.            Satisfactory conduct and acceptable citizenship.

3.            Participation and leadership in extra-curricular activities.

4.            Community involvement

The completed application must be returned by May 15, 2010.  No applications will be accepted after that date.  The completed application should be sent to:

This application MUST be accompanied by the following materials:

1.            One copy of the applicant’s high school transcript

2.            Two letters of recommendation – (one from the School Counselor and one from the Sponsor).

3.            A 3x5 black and white photograph attached to the application.

 

Application deadline is May 15, 2010.  All scholarship applications must be received by the Scholarship Committee on or before the deadline date.
